1) WHAT DO WE MEAN BY:

a
Pen Stroke: a coat of arms in black and white pen strokes, according to the antique method of Father Silvestro Pietrasanta, Heraldic treatiser of the XVII century, who gave origin to this technique used and recognised throughout the world “to read colours without colours…”.

b
Blazoning: a detailed description of the arm with the enamels, symbols and heraldic figures.

c
B/w: in black and white.

d
Duplicate: a service ordered in a number of copies by the same Customer, in the same order or within the following 6 months; it costs less than 50% unless otherwise indicated. It is approximately relative to the printed or copyist reproduction. It is printed exclusively in colour or b/w, like the original.

e
Gold decorated parchment: cm. 60 x 40, vegetable parchment, decorated with fine renaissance style decorations, impressed in hot gold.

f
Print: a professional PC printed copy.

g
Verisimilar copyist: printed text with exclusive unique characters, created and hand illuminated in medieval style by expert calligraphists.

h
Search, Study and Creation, Reproduction of Coats of arms of any nature (code 017 and following):
h1
search: search in Historic, Heraldic, Nobiliary, Chivalry archives, etc., of the Institute. If nothing is found, only 50% of the search cost is owed. Exceptions are made for those cases where the coats of arms come from the applicant, depending on the type of service. The coats of arms can be searched for in Public Archives, for example, state archives; the service is described at code 006 (and can be matched to option 012).
h2
study and creation of coats of arms: this is used when the requisites at the previous article are not satisfied.
h3
reproduction of coat of arms: printed or copyist reproduction, stroke or coloured; the two previous points are never included, but accompany the one or the other.

Referable to code 015:

i
Predicate: to indicate the feud that a noble title rests on, born by a person or a family, and the predicate is due by right to the entire lineage. Not all the noble titles have a predicate, as titles without predicate exist that are supported only by the surname;

j
Qualifications: these are expressions of honour linked to the enjoyment of a noble title; such as Don and Donna, added to a Christian name, Noble man and Noble Woman, the latter being maintained by Venetian Nobles;

k
Honourable treatments: similar to qualifications: including Royal Highness, Serene Highness, Excellency, Highest, Supreme Excellency;

l
Concession: this means when a Sovereign, motu proprio or against a proposal, creates a noble new title, predicate, qualification, treatment or coat of arms; it constitutes the original way of acquiring ex novo distinctions;

m
Renewal: A deed whereby a Sovereign revives a title or predicate that had previously existed, but had been extinguished due to lack of heirs; this is not the ex novo creation of the title or predicate, rather their revival by the Sovereign in other persons who previously were unable to inherit;

n
Recognition: the deed whereby the Sovereign grants amnesty for any lacking or failure that has been found in proof of antique concessions or the passage of noble titles, predicates or coats of arms;

o
Assent: the deed whereby a Sovereign grants his approval to any special measures established by specific dispositions, when a title has been legitimately passed through the female line to another family, where there are no more male descendents, and request is made for the title to be returned to the male line of the family it originally belonged to;

p
Coat of arms: this is usually a noble distinction and is also known as a blazon or noble arms, and each noble title has a coat of arms miniated which may be used by those having right to the title;

q
Refute: This means the transfer or alienation to others of native, granted, recognised, renewed titles or titles that a person has inherited, outside the direct succession line; to obtain refute, approval is required of all the intermediate heirs to the title, i.e. those who would have inherited it through a deed of concession.
